Warzone Events Superstar Slamboree, 12th April in Gillingham

This was the first even tin the South East Tournament Series that I was able to play in this year, due to being ill for the Greedy Goblet and running the Kent Team Championship. I was quite excited, although extremely indecisive about what team to take! This is me back to my usual self- my plan of playing through all the teams last year definitely helped make decision making easier!

For this event, every team had to take a star player and there was 1200k gold available to spend, but with limited skills. I looked at the teams that I thought wouldn't need many skills and could fit in a star player without compromising on positionals. I tried a couple of games with amazons and Dribl and Drull but it didn't suit my playstyle, so I switched to Norse with my favourite star player - Rumbelow Sheepskin. It meant that I got to use in earnest the amazing model that I was gifted as a Secret SKABBer gift at Christmas 2023.

With the skills I added guard on both ulfwerners, dodge and wrestle on the valkyries and didn't take any berzerkers. I was faily happy that the team should be relatively balanced.

Round 1 v Andy (Primhak)

After helping TO Curtis with some technical issues (for some reason Score wasn't creating a draw for the event) we got going, and I was up against an old nemesis, Andy from the BriBBe league.

Andy has been playing predominantly humans recently and he had a build with Ivar Erikson. I'd been waiting to play Andy for over a year after we had a brilliant game at Brighton's Light and Dark event, which he is now running from this year.

I won the toss and electric to kick. I figured having 2 players with strip ball would allow me to attempt the turnover with a full team to do so.

The humans snuck round one of my flanks having given the ball to their catcher, but this allowed me a hit on the ball carrier with a Valkyrie and this sent the ball into the crowd and then into the middle of my half. Unfortunately I failed the pick up, which would have potentially left me away and out of reach. This led to a big scramble with the ball changing hands. It came down to the human blitzer needing to make a 3+ pickup with no re-rolls to score, which he managed to do and we were 1-0 down at half time.

Receiving, I move up to the middle of my half and after getting surrounded by the humans, I manage to get a casualty on Ivar and get away. I get my ball carrier into range with all of the humans tagged, but a 3+ dodge followed by a pow knocks down only scoring threat and we succumb to a 1-0 loss.

Round 2 v Jez (PaganAgent)

I've played Jez a few times recently - on the top table at OctOgre Sevens, and on Blood Bowl 3 in the DBL's online competition. These both went my way, but we had a different match up this time, and he had renegades with Skitter.

As kicking didn't work, I opt to receive and can't keep the ball safe. A Skitter Stab blitz knocks it loose but leaves Skitter in danger of the surf (unfortunately a pow stops that from happening). I do get a badly hurt on the rat ogre, and the renegade's apothecary is used early. The ball is taken by the renegades and we are 1-0 down at half time.

Kicking the ball, I remove the rat ogre again but Jez sends his ball carrier as far away from my team as possible, screening with Skitter. I blitz and kill Skitter (yay!) and try to tag the ball carrier but fail with a rush and they are able to get in for a 2-0 lead.

I try to score quickly and have another go but in the end, I manage to not score at all and suffer my second defeat in a row - admittedly to probably 2 of the stronger players at the event.

Round 3 v Adam (HeffyElJefe)

Adam is an infrequent tournament player and an Alan Partridge fan. He's brought along some orcs with Scrappa Sorehead.

I kick and he progresses round the side and gets near to my endzone. I am able to dodge a Valkyrie in for a hit on the ball carrier, and whilst the ball gets loose, it isn't terribly helpful as the Valk ends up stunned and this just allows the orcs to stall a little longer. A score gives me a few turns to score back and I potato my dodge Valkyrie on turn 7 intending to score, but manage to roll 1 on each of the rushes, using up my last re-roll on the first. The orcs get players around the ball and after some frankly ridiculous dice (I've just worked it out and it was a 6% play), the Valkyrie dances around them, collects the ball and scores the first Norse touchdown of the day and we go in at half time one apiece.

Receiving the ball, I move slowly up the pitch and eventually get out of range and stall out, fouling Scrappa off the pitch, having had the better of the removals against the higher armoured team.

Conclusion

I end the day 1/0/2 bringing my overall Norse tournament record to

2/2/2. All of my car mates got an award - James got stunty cup with his snotlings, Ross got most touchdowns with his orcs and Craig got the wooden spoon with his goblins. Craig did mock me for not getting anything, but the real prize is the friends we make along the way.

I've also decided to award myself the DimmyGee Award for Removing Star Players From the Game, after successfully ensuring that none of my opponents had their star player available at the end of the game.

I enjoyed Rumbelow - he was pretty useful and didn't get removed himself, which was rather handy.

Here are some pictures of my car mates celebrating their prizes.
