Kent Team Championship 2023

Yesterday we ran our first ever collaborative event with other local leagues, and our first event using a team format.

I hope all those who attended had a great day yesterday. I thought the event went smoothly from an organiser’s point of view and I very much enjoyed the flapjack from the café.

We’re always looking to improve our events, so if you get time, can you please fill out the feedback form here

I need to say thank you to Chris White, commissioner of the Bromley BloodBowl League who found the venue, made all the arrangements, set it up in advance and moved all the tables (some of them from another venue).

Thanks also to Oli Wylie for refereeing the event and ensuring everything went well on the day, and Stu Miller for arranging some excellent prizes with sponsorship support from Charlie Victor and Punga, both of whom are SKABB Commissioners.

Charlie Victor have given us a 15% discount code which is available until the end of Monday 6th March which should have been circulated although let me know if you need it.

The event had to be adjusted slightly before the day to take account of a drop from 8 to 7 teams, but it went smoothly with a bit of maths magic and dispensing with the Swiss format. However, this meant that team matches were split over two rounds so it may not have been possible to know how you were doing in each of your matches, so the full results are listed below.  This wasn’t the ideal situation – we would have preferred all of the match up to be playing at once and you to be sat with all of your team mates which would be the plan for future events assuming we have an even number of teams.

Rounds 1 & 2
Scurrilous SKABBERs beat TWBBL 6-2
Bromley Bumble Bee Legends beat The Self-SKABBateours 6-2
Bromley B beat A Rush Too Far 5-3
All Kent All Stars beat Scurrilous SKABBERs 6-2
Bromley Bumble Bee Legends beat TWBBL 5-3
The Self-SKABBateours and A Rush Too Far drew 4-4
All Kent All Stars beat Bromley B 8-0

Rounds 3 & 4
Scurrilous SKABBERs beat Bromley Bumble Bee Legends 5-3
All Kent All Stars beat Rush Too Far 7-1
The Self-SKABBateours and TWBBL drew 4-4
Scurrilous SKABBERs beat Bromley B 8-0
Bromley Bumble Bee Legends beat A Rush Too Far 6-2
All Kent All Stars beat TWBBL 5-3
The Self-SKABBateours and Bromley B drew 4-4

This left the final group standings looking like this:

The All Kent All Stars winning with a perfect 4-0 record. The team was comprised of Chris White, Bob Davies, Tommy B and Damian Williams who each took home a Charlie Victor Voucher

A great showing from Damian who won all four matches meant that he was also the individual winner, taking home a Vampire Team from Punga. Damian narrowly pipped Hugo Darley (Bromley Bumble Bee Legends) who also went 4-0 due to strength of schedule tiebreaker.

Hugo did pick up the award for most touchdowns with 9 across his four games. He won a Charlie Victor ball token. Craig Mason from the Scurrilous SKABBERs also scored 9, however the tie breaker was fewest touchdowns conceded, and Craig had let in 4, compared to Hugo’s excellent defensive record of letting in just 1 touchdown.

Most casualties went to Hugo’s teammate Gary Weeks who took 15. He won some Charlie Victor casualty dice and cards.

Joe Wood from A Rush Too Far picked up the wooden spoon after losing all four games and was compensated with a Charlie Victor coach token.

Full individual standings are below.

We’ve learned quite a lot about running a team event compared to an individual event, and we would be keen to know your thoughts on it if you attended, what we could do better and whether you would prefer a slightly different format in the future.

Thanks again to everyone who attended, especially Chris, Oli and Stew. I'm going to have a bit of a rest now as yesterday was a long day and my body foolishly woken me up an hour and a half before my alarm!
